From buns to braids, the SS19 hair trends you need to try NOW
Reading time 5 minutes

Fresh from New York Fashion Week, L’Officiel Arabia caught up with Jordan Robertson, Senior Stylist at the award-winning Pastels Salon Dubai, for the lowdown on how to recreate next season’s hottest runway hairstyles.

Barragan SS19

THE TREND TO TRY: BUNS/KNOTS

AS SEEN AT: BARRAGAN

THE HOW TO:

1. Generously prepare the hair using ANTI Everything Spray and ANTI Styling Spray, drying and smoothing the hair using maximum tension to create a strong parting.

2. From that parting, smooth all the hair into a low ponytail and secure with elastic, cover your elastic with a small section of hair and secure under the ponytail using a pin.

3. Spray the ponytail lightly with ANTI Texture spray and back comb slightly down the length of the ponytail.

4. Twist the tail clockwise, using maximum tension, until it twists up on itself in the shape of an 8, and secure all around using bobby pins.

5. Going somewhere where you really need to turn heads? Copy the exact catwalk look we showed in New York. When the style is complete, using a tint brush, paint the head with a wet mixture of water and Morroccan Red Clay, leaving a 1” root around the parting as well as the knot. Dry the Clay using a dryer with a diffuser attachment until hard. Repeat the process 2 more times or until you have achieved the desired cracking in the clay.

Kaimin SS19

THE TREND TO TRY: TEXTURED BRAIDS

AS SEEN AT: KAIMIN

THE HOW TO:

1. Seperate the top section of the hair from temple to temple straight line.

2. Section below the temple line, use the ANTI EVERYTHING SPRAY to create a very tight ponytail

3. Braid the ponytails with natural hair or extensions. Spray with SHINE SPRAY

4. Spray your section with texture spray and blow-dry, use crimper to add more texture and backcomb to create a square volume. If the hair is too thin, use the CREAM CLAY

5. Cover your cube with a layer of hair that you’ll have put aside to finishing a sleek look

6. Spray with SHINE SPRAY.

Dan Liu SS19

THE TREND TO TRY: NATURAL MOVEMENT

AS SEEN AT: DAN LIU

THE HOW TO:

Prep hair with Davroe Tame & Body Volume Texture. Blow dry smooth. Once hair is smooth, shake through a light spray of Revive Dry Shampoo.

1. Starting at the nape, take a vertical section roughly 10cm in size. At the bottom of the hair, using a 38mm curling tong, wind hair two rotations. Gently clamp the iron down and slide the iron all the way to the ends of the hair, then wrap hair around the iron into  theroot.

2. Once hair is finished being wound and pinned, leave to cool for at least 5 minutes. Starting at the nape, remove clips and brush with a bristle brush outwards to help “blend” the waves.

3. Lightly back brush the roots and apply texturizing powder. Finally spray a fine mist (from a distance) of Brilliance Shine mist.

THE TREND TO TRY: STRAIGHT AND SLEEK

AS SEEN AT: SASKI COLLECTION

THE HOW TO:

1. Prep hair with Davroe Tame and Straightening Balm. Blow-dry with a paddle brush or round brush on a medium heat to smooth cuticle and create an even, hydrated working surface, with all hair directed away from the face and deep left side parting.

2. Start at the nape and work up the back section. Use your flat iron to smooth out roots to ends in roughly 2.5cm sections.

3. Starting at the nape in a 2cm deep section thoroughly work Fibre Crème through hands and smooth onto roots, smoothing with your hands first, then using a Nylon/Bristle brush, brushing hair smooth and tight down to the nape. Continue working through the hair in 2cm horizontal sections until all the roots are smoothed down and brushed back to the nape of the neck.

4. Tightly pull a setting net over the style, using your sock diffuser heat styler to soften and melt fibre crème and to hold style in place. Gently remove hair net.

5. Dress the remaining un-slicked hair with a good spray of Brilliance Shine Spray.
