In 2017, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele introduced his first fragrance for the brand, Bloom. Now, he has teamed up with master perfumer Alberto Morillas to create the luxury brand’s first haute couture perfume line, The Alchemist’s Garden.
As its name suggests, the 15-strong fine fragrance collection is inspired by the ancient history of alchemy, nature and nostalgia. Each scent tells the story of a place, a moment, a season, and a smell of a memory, through hero ingredients magnified for each scent: oud, amber, violet, iris, mimosa, rose and woods.
"The idea that some primary scents of perfumery, like the essences of the flowers, the green scent of some plants could be joined to atmospheres, linked to memories. And also link to the idea that a perfume in an alchemical way can, through a scent, bring you back to a different place, through a sense so strong and so important for every human being,” says Gucci creative director, Alessandro Michele.
The collection, which encourages individuality, boasts seven perfumes, four perfumed oils, three scented waters and a candle. Its method of wear is unique, where layering to elevate the original scent and to construct a bespoke trail, is recommended.
The packaging, as you would expect, is extremely Instagram-able. The perfumes, bearing names such as “A Song for the Rose” and “The Last Day of Summer”, are housed in opulent vintage-inspired apothecary bottles, adorned with gold lettering, animal symbols and tiny floral detailing, making them a perfect addition to any vanity.
