Preparation is key

The summer season can mean sunburn, dried out skin and extra oily pores, which means taking extra care to prevent damage and minimise breakouts. Although most reputable foundations have built-in SPF, not all have UVA and UVB protection. Here’s where Protective Facial Lotion (Aesop, 50ml, AED 195) steps in. The lightweight lotion is delicate on the skin and has SPF 25, with UVA and UVB protection. Even better, it also includes anti-free radical ingredients such as green tea, panthenol and Vitamin E. For all over sunscreen protection, we turn to French skincare brand, La Roche-Posay. Their Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Non-Perfumed Fluid (La Roche-Posay, 50ml, AED 99) offers 50+ SPF, UVA and UVB protection and is made for even the most sensitive and sun-intolerant skin - perfect for combating the strong Middle Eastern summer heat. For anti-ageing protection, that also helps to prevent dark spots we love Sunleÿa G.E. Soin solaire global anti-âge SPF 50+  (Sisley, 50ml, AED 985). We can’t remember a time that we weren’t busy - which is why we love these multipurpose 7-in-1 Dual-Textured Mask Pads (Starskin, 20 pads, AED 150). The hand-sized tub is perfect for popping in your handbag or carry on while travelling over the summer months - plus they have incredibly wide-ranged protection, containing all the important aspects of a good morning beauty routine including exfoliation, toning and moisturising. Most skin repair happens while we sleep, which is why we love a robust overnight cream. We like to wear Charlotte's Magic Cream (Charlotte Tilbury, 50ml) while we sleep. Tilbury first came up with the formula when she was looking for a cream that would hydrate models’ skin during Fashion Week and the powerful formula includes eight different skin-saving ingredients including Hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter along with Vitamin C and E. Also in our cupboard is Line Interception Power Duo (La Prairie, 50ml) the 24-hour skin protection kit offers SPF coverage during the day, while working to minimise wrinkles and fine lines while you sleep. If your skin is in need of some extra TLC we recommend Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask (Charlotte Tilbury, 2.3g), the mask can be worn up to two or three times and it’s tiny packaging means its great for travel or staying at home. Finally, when it comes to removing makeup in the evening, our go-to brand is Michellar Magic Make Up Remover & Cleanse (Tarte, 190ml, AED 100). The natural, gentle cleanser (containing babassu, glycerin, green tea and mulberry extracts) is ideal after a tough day of heat and humidity.

Strong foundations

The summer season is when investing in a good primer can mean the difference between having a great or terrible skin day. It’s important to make sure you buy one that is built for your particular skin type (oily, sensitive, dry or combinational). One that we love is the Veil Mineral Primer  (Hourglass, 30ml, AED100). The light, airy primer is oil-free and is packed full of natural minerals along with a broad spectrum SPF15. Alongside their full-size and jumbo options, the brand has introduced a travel size (30ml) option for the summer months too - perfect for packing in your carry-on luggage. It’s no secret that we’ve had a longterm obsession with Sisley. For summer, their Super Stick Solaire Teinté (Sisley, 15g, AED 375) is the perfect mix between a suncream and a light wear concealer stick. It’s ideal for the days when it is too hot to wear full foundation, or if you want a little skin coverage at the beach (with the added benefit of offering SPF 50+ UVA PA++++). One of our favourite, gentle summer foundations is the Babassu Foundcealer Skincare Foundation (Tarte, 30ml, AED 185). The vegan, plant-powered foundation includes 30 different shades as well as a broad spectrum SPF 20.  For longlasting durability during the summer months, we turn to Teint Couture Everwear 24H Wear & Comfort foundation (Givenchy, 30ml) and the Teint Couture Everwear 24H Wear & Comfort concealer (Givenchy, 6ml). The foundation-concealer duo promises 24-hour wearability, through heat, humidity and most other things that day-to-day life can throw at you. The limited edition Body Lava Body Luminizer (Fenty, 90ml, AED 260) is back for the summer season. The all-over gel-based luminizer perfect for complimenting summer skin and comes in three different shades. Also ideal for the summer months is the Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronz (Fenty, AED 130) the ever-inclusive label offers the bronzer in eight different shades, to suit all skin tones. If you love coconut as much as we do, you will need the O!mega Bronze (Marc Jacobs,2.3g, AED230) powder from the label’s coconut fantasy collection. The matte powder can be used for both face and body bronzing.

Bewitching eyes and lips

Eye makeup can be one of the biggest challenges of the summer season (hello, smudged eyeliner). For a foolproof combo, we like to pair Go Big or Go Home (Kat Von D Beauty, 2.5ml, AED 120) mascara in black with Vogeur waterproof eyeliner (Hourglass,0.55ml, AED 182) in ultra black. Both provide long wear, smudge-resistant eye makeup that can survive even the most challenging summer weather. To prepare our lips for the summer season, we use Pro Kiss’r Lip Loving Scrub Stick (Fenty, AED 130), it's ideal for exfoliating dead skin before applying a lip colour or balm. For the warmer season, we keep things simple with our lips and follow up the exfoliating treatment with Sephora lip balm range (Sephora, 3.5g, AED 30), which comes in mouthwatering different options including almond, coconut, goji, honey and rose.
