The great outdoors has never been this charming. For Fendi Men's Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Silvia Venturini Fendi took her inspiration — gardening, her favourite pastime — quite literally. Boasting no fewer than 60 looks, the show was a breath of fresh air that featured an even more inspiring collaboration.

Here's what you need to know about Fendi's latest show at Milan Fashion Week:

A friendship can blossom into an fruitful collaboration; Call Me By Your Name director, Luca Guadagnino, and Fendi are here to prove it. Guadagnino is a no stranger to the designer, having forged a connection with her 15 years ago. In 2007, the duo founded the production company First Sun together, which produced Guadagnino’s 2009 drama, I Am Love; Guadagnino has had several stints directing videos for Fendi.

Fast forward to today, the Italian filmmaker has come a long way. From graphic prints and whimsical accessories to the art direction of the show location, casting, and show soundtrack, Guadagnino's creative influence was felt all throughout Fendi's latest collection, for which he was a guest artist. He also designed a special "Botanics for FENDI" print, which was seen across a series of shirts, tunics and accessories.

Reflecting the direction of the collection, the runway was turned into a stroll in a garden for the models. The set, located at the gardens of Villa Reale, specially chosen by Guadagnino. “It was Luca who discovered this perfect place, a different set seen from the eyes of a cinematographer, to present a collection inspired by the botanical world, by gardening and by travellers,” revealed Silvia in an interview. Fendi set the scene for its guests with welcome gifts - each filled with fresh pastries, fruits and a porcelain Fendi tumbler for servers to pour hot coffee in.

Bringing the theme of gardening forward, the SS20 collection also took on a variety of earthy colours: olive, khaki, beige, creme, and black. This was especially prominent on tailoring, overalls, vests, flared trench coats and more. The collection certainly didn't shy away from nature.
