Cruise shows are known to translate unique themes of travel into the brand's collection and as for Miu Miu Cruise 2020, Miuccia Prada engaged in the themes of conservative dress codes, sophistication and high society dress-upmanship - all relating back to jockey clubs. With up to 52 equestrian-inspired looks, the show didn't fail to impress with Prada's signature aesthetics.
Here's what you need to know about Miu Miu Cruise 2020 in Paris:
Just like how Dior brought its cruise collection to Marrakech and likewise, Gucci to Rome, Miu Miu brought its destination show to Paris. Specifically, the Hippodrome d’Auteuil, home to a 33-hectare horse racing track dating back to the 1870s. An unconventional yet charming set up for its cruise collection, Miuccia Prada wants to emphasize its take on conservatism with its setting and Hippodrome fit the bill exactly.
The Miu Miu Jockey Club treated guests to a live jockey race, which preceded the Croisière 2020 fashion show. Afterwards, an exclusive dinner and party followed, underscoring the notion of racing as a social and sporting experience. These events occupied a number of spaces within the Hippodrome, from ‘Salon’ to ‘Lobby’, all devised as a bold reinterpretations of the building’s existing 1970s interiors.
Though conservatism served as the inspiration for this cruise collection, the Italian label lifted elements off the race track onto the runway in a glamorous and fun way. The collection was full of high-waisted shorts, double-breasted blazers, grandfather cardigans - all paired with chunky heels and bobby socks. The show's biggest takeaway? Hats and Chelsea collars.
The idea of layering hats may seem odd but Miuccia definitely knows how to do it right. From floppy sun hats layered under baseball caps to cloches and Prada's interpretation of ascot hats, headwear was in full effect on the runway. Oversized, Chelsea collars were spotted together with balloon sleeves, showcasing the juxtaposition of the traditional horse track dress code.
The Miu Miu Cruise 2020 show welcomed guests such as Celine Dion to supermodel Kaia Gerber, along with Actress Tessa Thompson and French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos, all dressed in a line-up of chic mini dresses to tailored blazers, floral prints and not forgetting, Miu Miu's iconic bags.
