Clare Waight Keller's collections for Givenchy are known for possessing an unmistakable modern appeal, but the designer herself is constantly referencing the past as she comes up with them. Last September, she showed a collection that was heavily inspired by 20th century androgynous It-girl Annemarie Schwarzenbach. For Givenchy's Pre-Spring 2019 collection, her interest lay mostly in Hubert de Givenchy's bygone sportswear line from the '80s.
You'll find the nostalgic mood all the more evident in its accompanying campaign film. Directed by Massimiliano Bomba, the video was given the Super-8 film treatment, lending a raw and rough energy to it. In contrast, the collection presented in it is impeccable.
For women, there's an assortment of ruffled and pleated dresses, blouses and skirts; standouts include a stunning gradient plissé lamé gown and a glittering embroidered dress. (The campaign film cleverly mirrors these textures through its architectural setting.) As for accessories, the models' outfits are paired with slouchy leather boots and new variations of the Maison's signature GV3 bag.
