Gucci apologizes for balaclava sweater launch

The announcement follows backlash against one of their recent releases

Gucci has apologised to fans following the launch of their wool balaclava sweater.

The black jumper, which features a balaclava polo neck, with red lips knitted into the design has been accused of being racist by some fans.

We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected and at the forefront of every decision we make.

People took to social media to call for the product being recalled.

In response, Gucci issued a statement saying “Gucci deeply apologises for the offence caused by the wool balaclava jumper...We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected and at the forefront of every decision we make. We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organisation and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond.”

The product will also be removed from all stores worldwide.
