For his debut Dior menswear collection, Kim Jones delved into the Maison's visual lexicon and cast its iconic motifs in a modern light. The toile de Jouy pattern was reimagined as feather embroidery upon many an airy tulle shirt; the Dior logo and bee took on a cartoon form courtesy of street artist KAWS; and the classic Dior Oblique pattern found its way onto a handful of accessories.
That includes the B23 high-top sneakers, which shot to the top of everyone's list of must-haves at first sight. Aside from the fact that they are the first Dior sneakers designed by Kim Jones, the appeal of the B23 high-tops lies in their unique construction: the shoe's Dior Oblique technical canvas façade is masked by a sheer overlay, a delicate detail borrowed from couture that instantly sets it apart from the plethora of luxury sneakers on the market.
The play on opacity also appears on the Dior Oblique Roller bag, which was wrapped with a see-through mesh. With its detachable and adjustable nylon "Christian Dior"-labelled strap, the Roller bag switches from a pouch to a crossbody with ease.
But no other bag from the Dior Oblique collection has us quite as excited as the Saddle pouch — the first Saddle bag for men! — which can be transformed into everyone's favourite accessory, the belt bag. Yet another stroke of genius on Kim Jones' part.
