Resembling strength, courage, power, wisdom and nobility, the Lion Head is found within many of Gucci's collections, such as in prints for ready-to-wear, Gucci Décor and crafted into the House's jewelry designs, starting from fashion pieces in silver to a new collection of fine jewelry. House Creative Director Alessandro Michele is often seen wearing the Lion Head ring, which debuted in the very first show he staged for Gucci, the men's collection for Autumn/Winter 2015-16.

For the newly born fine jewelry Lion Head Collection, the majestic creature is cast in 18kt white and yellow gold into earrings, pendant necklaces, rings and bracelets set with diamonds and coloured gemstones. In each case the Lion Head is the focal point, with diamonds used for the creature's eyes and coloured gemstones held in its teeth.

The Lion Head and Gucci's many other animal motifs are symbolic of the House's commitment to protect the natural world. Gucci joined The Lion's Share Fund in February 2020. This is a unique initiative, raising much-needed funds to tackle the crisis in nature, biodiversity and climate across the globe. Led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and a coalition of businesses and UN partners, the Fund aims to raise over $100 million per year within the next five years for the protection of endangered species and their natural habitats. Alongside the sums given by the Fund's other partners, Gucci's ongoing donations drive tangible on-the-ground results for this urgent cause.

Launched in September 2018, the Fund is already having a positive impact, providing a grant to improve critical radio systems for law enforcement officers protecting wildlife in Mozambique's Niassa Reserve nature reserve, helping reduce the elephant poaching rate to zero, and also providing investment to help secure land for endangered orangutans, elephants and tigers in North Sumatra in Indonesia.

Gucci is proud to pledge its support to this initiative, and the Gucci Lion Head stands as a reminder to us all that the natural world is precious and awe-inspiring and merits our continued protection.
