After earning a whopping Dhs157 MILLION in its opening weekend at the box office, and rave reviews from every corner of the planet, A Star is Born is tipped to win BIG at next year’s Oscars. But stars Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are already breaking records of their own – literally - with the album release of the music from the movie.

Debuting at No1 in this week’s Billboard 200 chart, the A Star is Born soundtrack – which credits Bradley and Gaga as the lead artists - shifted 231,000 album-equivalent units, comprising 162,000 pure album sales combined with roughly 32,000 track equivalent albums and 37,000 streaming equivalent albums, according to Billboard.

The biggest release week for a soundtrack in more than three and a half years, Bradley and Lady GG’s album beats a record previously held by the first Fifty Shades of Grey album, which debuted at No. 2 in 2015 with 258,000 units.

According to Billboard, A Star is Born is already the third-biggest-selling soundtrack of the year, trailing behind the incredible successes of The Greatest Showman (which, though released in 2017, sold a staggering 1.26 million units in 2018, of a total 1.35 million) and Black Panther: The Album (which sold 223,000 units).

A collection of original songs crafted for the musically-tinged romance about a fading singer (Cooper) who takes a budding ingénue (Gaga) under his wing, the soundtrack features songs with pop, rock, country, and R&B influences — and boasts collaborations between Gaga, Cooper, "The Cure" producer, Mark Nilan Jr., Joanne executive producer Mark Ronson, Artpop contributor Nick Monson, “Born This Way” producer DJ White Shadow, rocker Lukas Nelson, legendary songwriter Diane Warren, “Million Reasons” scribe Hillary Lindsey, Jason Isbell, and Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt.

Aside from being HUGE news in terms of music sales generally, the success of the soundtrack is particularly important for the movie’s leading actors. First up, because it makes Lady Gaga the only woman to have five No.1 albums this decade, bumping out Taylor Swift (who has four).

Secondly, unlike his multi-award-winning co-star, this is Bradley Cooper’s first ever album. Even more impressive is the fact that the 43-year-old actor took both guitar and piano lessons for 18 months before filming to master character Jackson Maine’s favoured instruments, as well as working with a vocal coach to drop his voice an octave to nail Jackson’s gruff, husky sound.

“Your voice is everything as an actor,” Bradley revealed in a recent interview . “It’s everything. It’s everything. And if you’re not connected to your voice, it’s over. It’s impossible. It’s like plugging in the electrical cord to truth, right?”

And according to the actor, the decision to sing live in the movie was down to Lady Gaga.

"She said, 'What I cannot stand in movies is when it's playback and you can see they’re lip-syncing. We’re going to sing live,' " he recalled.

Watch the trailer above, and try not to be spellbound by Bradley and LGG’s performances. We predict a few more album sales could well occur…and potentially a (not so difficult) second album in the future for this impossibly talented twosome? We can only hope.
