Marina Diamandis, the artist formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, has released a music video for her new single Handmade Heaven. The song, which was produced by Joel Little, dropped yesterday (February 7) and the music video premiered on Youtube today. The single marks the first release since her last full-length album, Froot. After its release, Diamandis took a three-year hiatus to reflect and “ to rediscover her authentic self, as opposed to the artist and persona (‘and The Diamonds’) she had lived and breathed since signing her record deal at the age of 22.” Feeling disillusioned with the music industry, she used her time off to go back to university courses and pursue studies in human personality and attachment theory. The songstress also launched MarinaBook, a website dedicated to discussing subjects like social media, material status, mental health, psychology.
Thankfully for us, she’s emerged from her hiatus seemingly well-rested, and ready to get busy with music again. The new video for Handmade Heaven, which was directed by Sophie Muller, features Marina walking through a picturesque winter scenery, accompanied by colorful visuals. The singer is wearing a red puffer jacket and matching pants. The imagery is all too reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hood, but according to Marina, fans shouldn’t expect this album to be as conceptual as her past efforts. She’s described her fourth album, which is slated to come out sometime later this year, as a “contemporary pop album."
Whatever it is, we can’t wait to hear it. In the meantime, check out Marina’s new music video below.
